1. Get bed risers with USB ports
Bed risers are an amazing idea to increase the space under your bed and give your room a more breezy look. Even better if these risers come with USB ports. That way you can charge your phones directly through the risers while lazing around on your bed. Sounds amazing, doesn’t it?
2. Use Double-duty furniture for everything
Efficient usage of space – Keep this in mind when you buy any sort of furniture for your dorm room.
You don’t have to buy new furniture, you can get plenty of good furniture off eBay or Craigslist. Also, be on the lookout for Garage sales as well. You can always look for some unused space in your closet, or use an ottoman as a storage box and for getting some extra sitting space as well.
Think and just look around your dorm room, you will get ideas automatically
3. Get organized with Storage boxes
Storage boxes are everything must when it comes to dorm room organization. You can use them for storing your books, clothes, plastic wear, electronics, blankets and sheets, and basically anything that fits into a box.
I use my storage boxes to store my textbooks, everyday casuals like my plain white t-shirts, and all my shoes.
And I’ve got all of them through Amazon and they were an absolute steal. I am confident that they will last me for a couple of years.
4. Hanging Closets and Jewelry Organizers
I use a hanging closet to fit in all my shoes (and I’ve got a ton of them). The position of my hanging closet keeps changing from wall to wall in my room and sometimes, it ends up on my door.
Hanging closets are comfortable like that!
They can support quite an impressive weight without tearing off or being ripped apart. I am saying this because I had the same exact doubt when I was initially buying them. So you needn’t worry about their durability as long you the good quality ones.
And Jewelry Organizers.
I prefer my jewelry organizers to be pretty, irreplicable and utterly fancy. I have listed a jewelry organizer from amazon below and it’s just so beautiful. It’s silver in color and looks absolutely magnificent. No matter where you place it in your dorm room, it’s going to glam up the whole place.
5. All the Closet Essentials You’ll Ever Need
Closets (A.K.A huge storage boxes) come in a variety of forms and in all shapes. If there’s absolutely one thing that can amp up your organizational skills, it’s your closet.
So make sure you have all the closet essentials you’ll need. The general closet rule is to have 1 huge closet and several small boxes that fit perfectly into it.
6. A Bedside Caddy to keep your things
I use my bedside caddy a lot. I use it when am studying on my bed( I know we are not supposed to study on the bed but you can’t deny that your bed is just the coziest thing ever).
When I binge-watch or binge-read, I place all my snacks, candles, and coffee mug on my bed caddy. That way I don’t have to worry about them spilling over my bed. Getting a bed caddy surely made my life a million times more comfortable than it was before. It’s one of my best purchases.
7. Get a Desk Organizer Already
A Desk organizer for one instantly glams up your dorm room and second, it gives you a lot of extra space and keeps your dorm room more organized.
Do you see how all the desk organizers have several levels? Yeah, that gives you a lot of extra space you didn’t know you wanted. I usually keep a few tiny plants on top of my desk organizer to add a bit of color. You can try it too!
8. Get Deep into your drawers and organize
I always threw in my pens, wires, pen drives, hair scrunchies, bills, keys, adapters, bracelets, and a bunch of other small things into 1 single drawer.
And as you can guess, it was an absolute horror when I wanted to find any one of them or sort all of them out. I had to spend a good amount of time fishing for my keys or a pen drive.
That changed when I got these babies. They are cheap and small but they make a ton of difference. It’s a win-win situation.
9. Wall Mounted Shelves
Wall space is an absolute treasure when it comes to space-saving ideas. Get yourself a bunch of wall mounts or as I’d call it wall bars and use that wall space of yours.
You can keep anything on your wall shelf. I usually keep all my books and moisturizers on my wall mounts.
10. Rethink about everything in your dorm room
Do you really need all the things that you have in your dorm room? Are you wearing all the clothes from your closet?
Sometimes we tend to hold on to things for no apparent purpose and sometimes out of pure laziness. If your goal is to de-clutter your dorm room, then do exactly that.
Start sorting out the things you need and don’t need. And start packing away all those furry jackets that you wanted to wear but never actually got to wear. If you don’t want to wear it now, you won’t wear it tomorrow.
So pack all the unnecessary items in your dorm room and donate them or send them back home.
11. Use Ottomans for storage and for sitting space
You can use these tiny little square boxes for almost everything.
Got a few shoes you need to store? Check
Need a makeshift coffee table? Check
Need some space to sit down? Check
Need a footrest? Check
Need a pretty-looking object to glam up your place? Check
12. Use the back of the door
Use the back of the door for absolutely everything and anything.
Hang a mini closet there.
Attach a mirror at the back of your door.
Attach some command hooks to hang your towels and jackets.
Use your door as a jewelry organizer.
Get a shoe closet and attach it to the back of your door.
Do what feels more apt for your dorm room but just make sure that you are utilizing your door space correctly
13. Place a small shelf below a free-standing clothing rack
I have actually read this hack from the Internet and I thought it was absolutely brilliant. Many of us use a free-standing clothing rack and the space below it is just bare.
Why not place a tiny little shelf below to amp up your storage space game? You can always store your socks, delicates, and scarves there. I haven’t honestly tried this out yet but it sounds brilliant.
14. Utilize the space under your bed
The right utilization of space in dorm rooms is everything.
You can store things that you occasionally use under the bed since you won’t be taking them out a lot. I store my rain jackets, winter wear, and all my heavy boots under the bed. It’s also a great place to store your previous semester notes or academic-related files that you won’t be needing every day.
15. More Ideas on Wall Storage
There are a ton of ways you can utilize your wall space.
Here are some of my Favorite Ideas. All you need is creativity and some coffee to figure out how you can utilize Your wall space accordingly
16. A Wall Mount in case you didn’t notice it before
I have talked about wall mounts before already but this is one of the best products on Amazon when it comes to wall shelves and mounts.
17. Loft Up Your Bed
When you loft up your bed, you are going to have all this extra space that you didn’t you had in the first place.
You can fit a mini closet under there, a huge shoe rack to fit in all your shoes and stilettos, a study desk, or even a mini kitchen. The point is, you are going to get a ton of extra free space that you really need when you loft up your bed.
18. Any Unused vertical space is a mistake
Not using your wall space? Mistake.
Not using the backside of your Door? Mistake.
Not using the front of your fridge for markers and planning? Mistake.
Not using your closet doors as hanging space? Mistake.
Any vertical space can be utilized as storage or to organize something or other. Look around your dorm room and inspect for used vertical spaces.
19. Keep your dorm room clean.
Being Organized is all about keeping things in their assigned place and making sure they stay that way. I know it’s hard to do that when you have a busy life and you are in college. Just spend about 10 minutes a day organizing things in your room every day.
